Racing
Racing is the original New Zealand bet, and TAB NZ grew up around it. Away from the cricket ground, this section explains how racing bets are placed and settled.
The Melbourne Cup, horse racing and greyhounds all feature. Fixed-odds and tote bets are both taken by TAB NZ. Its rules define the exotics, quinella, exacta, trifecta and first four, as well as plain win, place and each way bets; a tote payout is a dividend.
Greyhound racing winds down in stages starting 1 August 2026, with the Racing Integrity Board overseeing the sport; from the same date no offshore operator may accept bets on greyhound races.
