Privacy policy – kiwicricketodds
Readers of kiwicricketodds come for cricket and other betting topics in New Zealand, and the site collects only the personal information that an information service needs. The Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles (section 22) are the law that applies.
The responsible agency
Responsibility for personal information collected through kiwicricketodds lies with the body running the site. Its name, address and e-mail address are available at kiwicricketodds.com, and any question about personal information goes through the same channel.
Information collected
A log entry is written by the server whenever a page is opened: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the volume of data sent, the referring page and the browser type. Logs serve security and the detection of abuse, and after 90 days they are deleted or cut down so they no longer identify anyone. A person writing to the editors also supplies a name, an e-mail address and the message, used only to reply. There are no reader accounts, deposits or bets on the site, so no payment details or identity documents are gathered.
Reasons and principles
Collection has lawful purposes connected with running the site: keeping it available and secure, answering messages and, after a choice in the cookie banner, measuring the audience (IPP 1). People are told what is collected and why (IPP 3), and the information serves those purposes alone (IPP 10). Decisions are never automated and no profiling takes place.
Providers and transfers abroad
Nothing is sold. Information goes to providers that host the site, deliver its content and handle e-mail, and to public authorities where the law demands. Such a provider may store information outside New Zealand; disclosure abroad happens only when the recipient is bound by comparable safeguards or the person has been informed and agrees, as IPP 12 requires.
Safeguards and retention
Reasonable safeguards guard the information against loss and misuse (IPP 5). It is held only while its purpose lasts (IPP 9): server logs for 90 days at most, and correspondence until the matter is closed plus the period needed for possible claims. A notifiable privacy breach, one that has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, is reported to the Privacy Commissioner and to those affected.
Access and correction
Anyone may ask for access to the information held about them (IPP 6) and for its correction (IPP 7). The reply comes as soon as reasonably practicable, and no later than 20 working days after the request arrives (section 40).
Complaints
Someone who believes their privacy has been breached can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
