Before any cricket market is worth reading, the question of who may take the bet has to be settled, and in New Zealand the answer is brief.

Section 74AAA of the Racing Industry Act 2020 gives TAB NZ sole rights to put racing and sports bets in front of people in New Zealand, from 28 June 2025. TAB and Betcha are one operator under two names. Nothing can be applied for, and no register of bookmakers exists.

Liability falls on the operator. DIA states that an overseas firm taking such bets breaks the law, yet a person betting offshore cannot be convicted for it as an individual. TAB NZ betting begins at age 18.
